Tono is confused. It’s late May, and he’s wearing jandals and shorts. There is no morning frost. Every night he sees lightning flashes on the northern horizon. Stray cats with gooey eyes harrass him on every corner. Whatever is going on in this wet northern metropolis, he wants no part in it. He wants to wear thermals again. He wants to see open fires, and real mountains, with snow on them. He wants real beer and decently priced whiskey. He wants a cold.
All year Tono has been fighting gentrification and supermarket duopolies from his base in the bad lands of Grey Lynn, while writing a new album and preparing the release of Tono and the Finance Company’s sophomore Fragile Thing EP. But now it’s time to go home, for a little while anyway.
Thanks to the booking abilities of Steve Marshall and Jordan O’ Jordan, Tono will this week embark on his most extensive ever South Island tour, bringing along his genius pal Paul Cathro of Alizarin Lizard fame.
He’ll be playing material from the new EP out this June, and from the newly written album Tono and the Finance Company will take to the Studio/bedroom/toilet this year.
Expect arguments with David Bowie, tales of cruel Ponsonby landlords and epistemological crises with lyrics within lyrics in this new batch of writing. Expect Paul Cathro to blow your mind.
