Charlie Groth

Charlie Groth is a musical minimalist. Plays a Yamaha accoustic guitar he bought 30 years ago for $70; ” Don’t use no fancy electrical gee-gaws ” and his sound requirement was two S.M. 58s. Back in the States Charlie says he looks for work everyday and it would seem by his website bio he has plenty to do.

Charlie plays roots music, county, folk and blues and he brought to the club the sounds of the Appalachians and the Ozarks, a bit of Nashville and some wicked Memphis Blues. He let his fingers do the talking and the audience were silent and spellbound when he played. Charlie is a legend in his own right and brought with him a New Zealand country legend in Dusty Spittle who still plays it as it is. It was a privilege to host Charlie and to get to, ” Do Stormy Monday for the folks “  with him was an honour. This was a gig I was glad I didn’t miss.
